Get "take off" rotors and calipers from a late model E350 or order them new - bigger is better.

That would be a good option, and bigger is almost always better, but sometimes bigger doesn't always fit[emoji79]. It depends on what size wheels you have. Some brake options will only fit under a 17" wheel, so short of replacing my wheels/tires, I went with frozen rotors under my 16" and had them re-drilled to fit my 8X6.5 bolt pattern. There's a few threads here on the subject that give some other options, the brake man being one.

Later model E250/E350 brakes will fit earlier factory 16" wheels and most if not all aftermarket 16" wheels. Not much changed over the years and it is a simple swap that gets you a lot more brake.

I fitted my 2003 E250 extended body with what's generically called the '08 brake upgrade. With the correct parts its a direct swap all the way back to at least '97 chassis.
I believe there's a write up I authored which has photos of the newer parts in place before everything was installed. Here's a link: http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...tos-11255.html

I'm not sure that is correct. Bigger brakes will fit on 16" OEM wheels but not on many of the aftermarket alloy rims many of us have, for example, ATX Mojaves. Thus, the need to go to 17" or if you really get carried away then you need 20" to fit F550 rotors and calipers. Just looking for clarification as I'm planning to go to bigger brakes in the near future but was under the impression that I would need bigger wheels.
Sportsmobile used The Brakeman for upgraded brake packages in the mid-2000s. Their storm brake package was rotors and pads and a bit more expensive was their Tornado caliper. One can still source either from the company that bought them out. TBM Brakes

If I only had to replace 5 wheels it might not hurt so much but I have to add the 3 wheels on my SMB trailer to total 8 tires and wheels. That is a lot of cash. During my build I was limited to just a few rims to choose from due to the weight of my rear axle. I took the Brakeman rotor/pad upgrade and although I didn't see a huge difference in stopping power, the brake fade seems to be less. I can still get the parts but can't find any info on TMB's web site. My choice today would be different because there are so many more sizes of tires and wheels to choose from. I think SMB used a larger Ford brake system on the 08 and newer vans. I've never heard of those with the newer brakes complaining.

Ramsey is right. The newer OEM setup is best. I tried jsut about everything out there (except the brakeman setup) and still kept cracking rotors and burning through pads.

But you'll still need 17" wheels unless you want to go with OEM steelies. SMB is now putting the F550 brakes on the few E350s they are doing and that requires 20" wheels.
