Ford Warranty Terms

I'm in the process of buying a used 2008 Ford E350 V10. It's a stock extended cargo van that I will have converted. The van has approximately 6500 miles on it.

My question is regarding the warranty Terms & Conditions. From what I can gather on-line, the first scheduled service is at 7500 miles (Perform multi-point inspection; Change engine oil and replace oil filter; Rotate and inspect tires, check wheel end play and turning noise). So, mileage is well within the limits, but there is also this disclaimer regarding the oil change: "Perform at specified mileage interval or every 6 months, whichever occurs first".

I am meeting with the seller tomorrow to negotiate a final price, and will ask if he performed an oil change at 6 months. But, need I be worried? The Warranty Guide says anyone can perform the maintenance, but that receipts should be retained.

My primary concern here is maintaining the warranty coverage, not gaining the upper hand in negotiations.

Anyone have any experience or input into this?

Thanks in advance.

Brent

Re: Ford Warranty Terms

I don't know about that, but you should check into registering the conversion in Canada if you haven't. Maybe buying, registering, then converting gets you there but I'm not sure if SMB has their builder certification for Canada yet. Haven't been following it, but a forum member had to sell their newly purchased used van last year because they couldn't register it up thar.

Re: Ford Warranty Terms

Jeremiah,

Yes, I remember Oldgoat's woes with his van. But I'm pretty sure people have also been able to get SMBs into Canada (don't ask me for proof, though).

Nevertheless, it is a moot point, as I am most likely going to use a local conversion company - GTRV - here in Vancouver. (Hopefully, that won't get me banned! ) They're only 45 minutes from my door, as opposed to 17 hours to SMB West. Warranty issues should be MUCH easier.

Anyway, I was planning to post info on the conversion when I get to it - if anyone is interested. Right now, it's one step at a time.

So howzaboutit? Anyone have any input on their Ford warranties?

Re: Ford Warranty Terms

I know what the warranty says, but I've had a lot of Fords over the years and even some new ones where I had warranty work done. I've never had a dealership ask a question about whether or not routine maintenance has been done. I'd ask the seller about it, but I wouldn't worry about voiding any warranty. Just my experience and opinion.

Re: Ford Warranty Terms

Thanks Scatter. That gives me some comfort. I didn't think it would be an issue, but this will be my first Ford, and hearing comments about FoMoCo going out of their way to invalidate warranty claims has me a wee bit nervous.

Re: Ford Warranty Terms

I know that our Ford vehicle's purchased in Ontario Canada are worked on in Illinois where our corporate headquarters are based and that the Canadian's seem to have a different approach to what Ford Motor Company does in Canada . they seem to be more favorable towards warranty issue's up their .
