Thanks, that may be just what I'm looking for. The local dealer,Fleet Authority, is the shop that fixed the leaks in my Starcool.
Anybody else out there have any experience with this product?
The installation instructions are straight forward.

gahamby, did you get this worked out?

Another option is Alcan Spring in Colorado, arctictraveller used them. www.alcanspring.com

Not yet. I addressed some of the problem by moving the axle forward on the trailer. I had added too much tongue weight when I mounted a storage box on it. I'll contact Alcan and see what they have to say. All these solutions require finding a mechanic shop able and willing to work on a SMB. It's harder than I imagined. No one wants to touch anything even slightly beyond stock. I don't relish the thought of doing this on the ground. Our bumper swap in WVA not withstanding.
Short answer, still pondering. Thanks to all for the good input.

Bumper was easy compared to springs.

No RV shop around who will do the work? 4x4 shop who might be willing?

I was reading about different types of airbags the other day, could possibly work for you. Let me see if I can find it.

The RV shops around here run like hell when they see anything beyond stock.
I haven't found a 4x4 shop yet.
Fleet Authority has the ways and means but not the enthusiasm. When I put my rig in to get the A/C leaks fixed they had it for over a month.
The Active Suspension looks like something I could put on in the driveway. I'd need another set of jack stands though.
If I really get into this what does the membership think of this

My van has a bone stock open rear. To stray slightly off the pavement is flirting with disaster. This I won't be installing in the driveway if I go there!
Is this an option?

Good luck then with a shop.

GMC or Chevy dealer won't work on the rear end/suspension?

Dealers in two different states have worked on the GM part of my van.

I've also found local auto shops that will work on it in both KY and MO.

That differential would be much better than an open one. No desire for a locker?

gahamby,
I experienced the same issue in my area, very few Shops willing to tackle the work simply because of liability concerns - took a while, but I finally found a couple close by that collectively fulfil my requirements (but that has limits as well).
There was an outfit I had a great conversation with a couple years ago that seemed promising in Virginia Beach area, unfortunately never ended out taking the van to them so I'm unable to offer any endorsement - but they do suspension work. Might try reaching out for these guys to see if they can help you.

I think to put in a locker I would have to upgrade to a 14 bolt rear end.One vendor http://www.eastcoastgearsupply.com/ stated that you can't put an aftermarket locker in a 12 bolt Dana 60. In which case the full axle would be a start.
I've had such bad experiences in the past with dealerships that I hesitate to deal with GMC.
If I'm dropping out the rear to re spring that's the time to swap the axle.
Fleet Authority would do it locally but the owner didn't seem like he really wanted to do it.
My gearhead nephew in NJ has the means but not necessarily the time. If I'm going to travel to get this done that would be the ticket.
I've a lot more digging to do.
Thanks for the replies.

Not sure where in VA you are, but in Fredericksburg, there's Iron Pig Offroad. More of a Landcruiser specialist, but I'd bet they work on other rigs.
