How did Pickers get a Transit?

Saw the Pickers on History channel recently and they bought a brand new Transit van. How?

Product placement and marketing. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought one over from Europe for them. I told my wide a year ago that I bet Ford was going to do a placement on that show, and voila!

Your "Wide" Brian? Freudian? Just kidding. Mercedes really dropped the ball.

The Transit started production on April 30th.
I'm sure they were making pre-production vans for a while before that date and like BrianW said, Product placement and marketing. They were selective on who got these first vans.
Will be fun to start seeing them on the road and at dealerships.

I guess the bigger question is 'why are you watching Pickers on TV?'

Re: How did Pickers get a Transit?

I live in SE Michigan and see NUMEROUS Transits around the area...on a DAILY basis. They're everywhere out here as Ford Engineering is in Dearborn. Granted, they are all likely to be pre-production test mules but the likelihood that Ford has several early production vans for marketing, press fleets and long-lead intros is very good at this point.

I haven't seen any full size transits on the road yet.

They made a big deal out of van replacement for weeks, so it was definitely a product placement and marketing idea that got them their van. AND I suspect you will see the FORD emblem prominently displayed in shots every episode.

Re: How did Pickers get a Transit?

maybe I should start watching this show?

did a quick search and found their FB page https://www.facebook.com/AmericanPickers
with a van promo, attached, and this post
Join the Pickers on a picking trip and prove you have what it takes to spot the best items and make the deal. Only the best players get to the bonus round in the American Pickers game, presented by Ford Motor Company. Play now! http://histv.co/1kwD8D8

Greg In Austin is spot on - seems like a pretty well orchestrated marketing ploy by Ford, which I think is a smart product placement.

How did Pickers get a Transit?

Ford had a tie-in promo with Pickers: find a hidden Transit toy van in an antique shop in selected cities and be entered to win - wait for it - a whole TWO WEEK's use of a new Transit! Wow! What a prize. They were getting pretty beat up on social media about it. Curious to see if they changed it for something better. Maybe a two year lease if a new van would get me interested.
