thanks for the detailed response.

yeah, I noticed the washer on top of the fender washer w/ the big hole. My quicky repair seemed to do OK w/ the 5" of snow we got yesterday and the roof paneling was dry. Looks like once we get some nice sunny warm weather I'll pull everything one by one and replace w/ properly sized fender washers.
the butyl sealant you used - did you just get it at an autoparts store meant for windshields and stuff? how about the butyl tape, where did you find that?

thanks jage-

Sportsmobile supplied some butyl tape that I didn't use. The sheets I got from Scalf77... what a guy.

Derek,
I still have a lot of butyl material left over. PM me and I can send you some. The big issue I found with the washers holding the back J-hook is that it is in the low portion of the roof, and that the edge of the washer was actually hitting the angled side ever so slightly. This did not let the washer lay flat on the roof. See my crude exaggerated picture. I chose to replace it with a 2" washer instead of the 2 1/2" that it used. Sportsmobile said that that was OK, or that they would clip the side of washer.
