Line X for rocker panels & nerf bars?

My van is super clean on the exterior seeing how the PO never really took it off road, however I live 2 miles up a dirt road and those BFG A/T's love to throw stones and the rocker panels and nerf bars are starting to show small scratches and being Moab Red, they show up. I plan on having the van a long time and seeing how it only has 40k on the ticker, she's barely broken in....

I am contemplating having the local Line X guys do the rocker panels, nerf bars and perhaps the front bumper to help preserve my investment.

Any comments or experience? Thinking if they could color match to do the panels in red and all else in black.

I think if nothing else, the rocker panels would be a good idea.

If you do the nerfs, talk to the LineX guys about texture options. LineX can get a little slippery. I think the higher application pressure they use, the smoother the texture, and therefore the more slippery it can be. It's not bad by any means, but using it on the nerfs if they get used as a step, could present a safety concern.

I've also heard that LineX also has a new UV inhibitor that helps keep it from looking chalky like many of the spray-on liners can look after a while. I have my interior of my Bronco sprayed in LineX, and though it's exposed to the sun much of the time, it hasn't so far looked chalky. Dirty, but not chalky. It's about 5-6 years old now, without the new inhibitor, and is holding up well.

All in all, I love LineX.

Second that. It's my plan to get the bottom foot or so of the van if I ever get it back from the body repairs so I get get the wrap done.

Alta is right about the chipping from the backwash of the BFG ATs. My hoop steps are pretty well chipped after one year of use.

But what are rocker panels?

Is there something unique with BFG ATs that cause them to kick up more rocks than other tires?

And, if you're four wheeling with hoop steps, you really can't complain about a few dings. Just be glad the steps are still attached!~

Rocker panels are the lower part of the van body:



Nobody uses the termonolgy in the pic, but you get the idea. Usually the same part behind (and over) the rear wheel is referred to as quarter panels.

Line-X for wheel wells?

Should I have Line-x or something sprayed in my wheel wells on myn new van to protect them from rock chips? hanAny suggestions?

There's a product out there called "Chip Guard". Talk ot someone that does body work. I have it on my 93 Mazda 626. The Mazda is black & the Chip Guard is clear. There are no chips on the rockers where this is sprayed on & I have 140K on it.

Rhino Lining 1/2 way up

I love what I did to my van with the Rhino Liner. No more worries about scratches or minor dings and I think it looks very nice. It turns a lot of heads in I get a lot of questions when Im out and about.
