Want to put in an underfloor storage box before the floor goes in. Gotta get rid of the tire carrier.
Bought a cheapie air hammer with chisels. Chisels not too sharp and basically just taking off oxidation and denting. Gonna try drilling and see where that goes and maybe cut them in pies with a cutting wheel.
But then it almost looks like this thing was slid into the frame with the bumper off and certainly no hitch on there.
Should I just cut the dang thing out of there instead of trying to be cute with it and get it out in one piece?? Anyone tackle this??
I think most people just use a grinder and cut it out unless they have the body off the frame. I guarantee no-one on here is looking for an intact spare tire carrier so I wouldn't worry too much about keeping it in one piece for resale.
I thought I could do a pretty removal with no leftover stubs. I tried, but those damn rivets are tough and in awful places. Instead it was a shower of hot metal sparks and a couple blown up cutting wheels. I grabbed the grinder and was half way through the first in a couple minutes. Just gotta grind off the sharp edges.
It's done though. I can't believe how much space is under there. Wide open real estate!
