penthouse latch adjustments?

OK, quick qiestion for y'all...
How tight should the J-hooks for the PH be? It seems like if you tighten the screws a couple of turns it wants to pull down the area of the roof where the latches are anchored. If I back them off a turn or two the weatherstrip doesn't sit totally flush with the roof of the van. What is the consensus, the SMB manual wasn't too clear about how tight they should be.

Thanks and I'll also get some pics of our inagural trip in our new rig posted soon too

Cheers,
D

I've set mine to slightly pull up the black brackets when they are clamped. Seems pretty snug, but not too tight.

When I picked up my van the rear J would barely stay on and the threads were bottomed out. I never seemed to have any issues related to that, but when I got my van back from Fresno they had the rear hook so tight that it flexed up the whole back shelf, so I loosened it to about where Jeffrey describes it.

I think it was that tight because when they put the bolt back they jacked the chain to the side so it doesn't line up and was effectively shortened.

is it OK if the top of the PH bows in slightly where the anchors go thru the roof? It seems like the entire area around the anchors will bow in just a little bit, say a 1-1/2 ft sq area
Just don't want to do any sort of long term damage

thanks

I mean if you consider almost 11 years "a while" then I guess you could say that...
