Power door locks proper operation

When I lock the doors with the power door switch (2009 E250), they immediately unlock themselves again if the driver's door is open even with the key out of the ignition. Also the warning chime sounds when the door is open, whether the key is in the ignition or not.

Is this normal and what might be wrong?

Thanks...

It sounds like you have a defective ignition switch. It thinks the key is in the switch all the time. Or, a bad wire from the switch.

Take it in, it should be under warranty unless you have too many miles on it.

Re: Power door locks proper operation

I tried spraying contact cleaner inside the ignition switch, and fished around in there with a wire. It sorta looks like the cam that senses the key no longer has a good spring. Guess I will have to take it in.

Or cut the Black and Pink wire under the column and not have to listen to the bell with you door open and the keys in it. There is a post on here somewhere about this. What year is your van? Does the chime ring with the door open without keys in? If not I don't think that is your problem.

It is an 09 van and yes the door chime sounds even with the key out. The chime is annoying sometimes but I like the idea of not being able to lock the doors with the key in the ignition.

Re: Power door locks proper operation

Probably is the ignition switch. Doesn't it have the 3/36 warranty. If so have it replaced.

Re: Power door locks proper operation

Possibly a glitch? Maybe try to reprogram the locking procedure then return it to what it’s set at, but I agree with others that it sounds like a ignition mechanism problem.
