Seat belt not coming out

My passenger side seat belt is having issues to where only about an inch will come out then lock up then you retract and pull and another inch or so will come out. Can anyone tell me the reason for this? This is the oem seatbelt for the front passenger in a 2006 E350.

Thanks!

Jin, I can't help you unfortunately but I have another car that is doing this. It's driving me nuts! I hope you find a solution and don't have to replace it.

Does anyone know if you can lube these things or is the lock mechanism just failing?

Sounds like the inertia lock mechanism may be prone to developing some sort of defect. If that happened with me, my first instinct would probably be to monkey with it.

Let's say for the sake of argument that I got it to start releasing. The next question I would then ask myself would be whether I could then count on the mechanism to operate when I really needed (IE: in an accident).

That said, I would be curious if anyone has specific experience / knowledge with this..

Looks like the check ball thing is failing. I guess I'll need to order up a new seat belt.

Garage
Have you tried the Emmett Clark method? Mine was doing the same in my chevy. I couldn't see a way to pop off the cover. I guess I got a little rough with it and all of a sudden it started working.
