Sliding side door setup?

Hi all!

I have been browsing the forum for a while now and with my project van came to notice an interesting point:

Nobody seems to have a lateral sliding door on any of the Ford or Chevy models...

Or does anybody have one? If you do I would be interested in seeing photos of your layout?

Thanx

Re: Sliding side door setup?

With the rear Dynatrac axle, or the CorectTrack wheel spacers, the sliding door won't clear the rear tire, at least on the Ford vans. I know that Quadvan (in Oregon) offers new bracketry that allows a sliding side door to clear the wider track rear wheels.

Hope this helps.

Ah Herb,
Good point hadn't thought of that
On the other hand Sprinter's all seem to have the sliding doors...

In some ways I would have preferred the swing doors as they offer better cupboard options and storage on them... the sliding door... well does nothing really...

Ah one advantage is when parked along side other cars it will open better for passenger access...

Spurious has a sliding door. Look for his build in the Ground Up/Homemade forum.

Re: Sliding side door setup?

I think the slider has a big advantage when the awning is deployed. My awning has to go out flat to clear the side door when it opens. I would like to be able to have it point down and still open the door.

Re: Sliding side door setup?

I have been told that a sliding door will interfere with the rear awning mounting bracket. Something that needs to be checked out.

Re: Sliding side door setup?

As often (very seldom)as we use the awning, it shouldn't be a deciding factor.

I have a sliding side door with an awning. Check out pics in my gallery here:
