Depends on your camera and image program-
Picasa, or similar image programs where you rotate images in a gallery save the info but don't write the new rotated image unless you specifically do so- meaning the one on the disk is still unrotated, but the program knows to display it at 90º or -90º.
I'm pretty sure modern cameras (point and click) have gotten smart and show the images rotated based on the position of the camera at the time- another step in doing everything for you. My wife's camera won't even let me remove the images using the computer, assuming I'm too stupid to understand the camera as a drive (even though that's all it really is...
)
