What size tire can I fit onto a 2wd 94 E250 SMB?

OK I am picking up a 1994 E250 RB Sportsmobile in Florida and driving back to Phoenix. The current owner says the tires have 8000 + miles left on them but they are 8 years old. Figure I will get a set shipped to a friends place and put them on before I leave.

Now the crunch is that I do not know if this SMB will just be a donor for my E350 EB 4wd or not. So the tires will possibly be going on my 4wd and I would prefer something a little larger to fill up the wheel wells.

So has anyone gone up to a 245/75/16 or larger on a standard 2wd ford van?

Thanks in advance.

My stock '97 E-350 PSD Wagon has 245/75's on it...

Sounds like you should just drive it home. Buy tires when you know exactly what you need.
If the tires are low tread but drivable...just drive expecting a flat and make sure the spare is inflated and already out and ready to go....jack too.
