Re: Wheel spacer question

Make sure your vent tube is properly routed and has the little cap thing on it.

Water can get in through condensation as air is drawn in through the vent.

Don't stop in deep water crossings.

Drive long enough to get the rear axle up to temp on a regular basis to evaporate out the moisture.

Fluid changes based on usage...

Let's talk fluid changes......(sorry for the hijack)

What's the recommended fluid? Whatever the manual calls out? Same stuff for semi-float and FF? Are the fluid requirements different for limited slip?

Just remove the pumpkin cover, drain and refill up to the fill hole?

When the cover is off, is there an easy way to verify LSD?

Re: Wheel spacer question

Ok this is all new to me so please keep it in mind, if I understand correctly, you guys are saying that the OEM rear axle is not meant to have all the weight we are adding on them never mind the spacers (I'm not doing the 4x4 conversion simply the cargo area)

Depends on your axle.. Full Floater or Semi Floater, the vans came with both. And some would argue the semi is inadequate.

Wheel spacer question

I know I'm new and haven't introduced myself yet, but give a look at Adaptec for adapters and spacers. Custom sized, hubcenteric and lugcentric available. They are big in the watercooled VW world.

Re: Wheel spacer question

Cleaned my van yesterday and noticed one of the lug studs was snapped off one of the rear tires. The rear wheels have spacers that I need to get off to replace the studs. The nuts came off with a breaker bar, a pipe, and a lot of elbow grease but the spacer still won't budge. Anyone have any tricks for getting it off?

Thanks!
