Width of opening for Contempo and Voyager tops

Does anyone know the opening width of the Contempo and Voyager fixed tops at the van roof line. My PH top is only about 36" between the rails. I was just wondering if the fixed tops have the same strengthening rails or if the opening was wider at the roof line. Planning ahead for the next van. I really like the mostly straight sides of the high roof Sprinters. Allows other options for interior ideas. I would like to put my bed about 32" off the floor with bicycles under the bed, but that 36" opening might be a little tight when getting up at night for the nature calls. Would hate to give up the real 4x4 of the Ford vans and still haven't heard much about Sprinter AWD/4x4 lately.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Width of opening for Contempo and Voyager tops

My top isn't a Voyager or a Contempo but I have 53 1/2" measured side to side at the line of the top of the stock van roof. The sides of the top do go straight up to where it starts to curve in the picture below. I did build a raised bed platform in the back that has 32" of space under it.

32" of storage under bed

Re: Width of opening for Contempo and Voyager tops

I have contempo top. Mine has small shelves running along the sides where there are no cabinets so can't see actual cutout. I measured inside width of top at roof line just behind front seats = 58". Then measured between fabric covered vertical trim pieces that are about an inch thick that run along sides of van under shelves = 51.5", add 2" for width of trim pieces = 53.5" also. Could be more trim where I can't see but I expect this is within inches of actual opeing. Maybe SMB can tell you actual size.

My voyager top is the same. With two small shelves running down each side.

Re: Width of opening for Contempo and Voyager tops

Thanks for the help. The 50+ inches would be much better for the raised bed. Thanks for the pics on that also. Looks like you could put a queen size mattress in there if you wanted. Lots of storage under the bed.

Re: Width of opening for Contempo and Voyager tops

A queen mattress is 60" X 80", an extra long full is 54" X 80". I went with the XL full mattress in my van. I checked with 3 mattress stores and no one had the XL Full in stock but it only took a few days to order one in. A regular size full mattress is 54" X 75". I'm 76" tall so the extra long full is a perfect size for both me and the van.
