Aluminess bike rack

Sounds like Aluminess is introducing their much anticipated new bike rack at Overland Expo West. Apparently, they are taking pre-orders now.

Anyone seen one or know any details about how it works or where it goes on the bumper?

I am eager to see this one . . . .

I take it this will require/integrate with their rear bumper setup somehow?

They must have beefed up the swing-arm. The original option was to mount trays to the top of a box which was less than ideal. Then, they integrated and added tubing above with which to mount bike rack trays but the weight limit was 150#. Because folks were exceeding that amount they were getting failures and they discontinued the bike rack option. Subscribed.

Here's a pic, I'm guessing this is the rack or a variation of it.

That looks to be the old rack that they discontinued.. so presumably the new one will be different.

yep, that's basically the same as the one I have with the reinforced bars above the box.

From Aluminess:

"Thank you for your interest in Aluminess Products. We do not have any pictures available. We are still finalizing the swing arm. The bike carrier is going to be a one-piece swingarm with the bike carrier incorporated. It will still allow a box to be mounted. If you already have a box carrier swing arm attached sadly it will have to be removed for the new with the bike carrier incorporated. It will hold a maximum of two bikes."

Sounds like a beefed up version of the older rack.

Did they indicate any timeframe?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a custom one, would love to have other options... also rather not have all of us bugging them.

EDIT: May 12 – 14 are the dates for the expo, Id guess they will be ready before then.

Aluminess said once they confirm the compatibility with your bumper you then submit a $100 deposit. The cost is estimated to be $650 and they will be ready to ship end of May.
