Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance

Copes,

I will share all I learn once I have my rig all put together. You might end up ahead of me. I've ordered my rear bumper with just the simple open box so that I can easily unbolt it when towing. I also ordered a roof rack that I could if needed re-located the spare to when towing. I'm hoping that won't be the case.

With reference to the front box, I did it for two reasons. First I needed more weight on my front axle. I carry a KLR 650 on a rear Versa Haul hitch mounted rack, with all that overhang more weight up front improved the handling of the rig. Second, we carry four bikes with us, two inside mounted to the dinette when folded down and the other two outside. One reason we are moving to the van is to move the bikes inside. Driving cross county watching your mountain bike get saturated for hours on end is not great. Before I can upgrade my bike I really need the van for secure inside DRY storage. That said the box is going to stay with us and could be used for short trips. I plan on mounting the box to the trailers bike rack hitch in the rear.

We'll see how the 6.0 does pulling 8000 lbs up CO passes.

Looking forward to hearing about your Cummings.

Jim

outopawn thanks for the battery swap idea, I'm pulling my RV for the first time tomorrow since the Aluminess R with galley was installed so its going to be sketchy until I can perform your mod.

I use this to remove trailer jack for better turning clearance and better ground clearance when off-road and when stored and removed harder for someone to take your trailer

Quite simple, really.
1. Drink a great deal of beer.
2. Find a scale.
3. Stick out your tongue, and rest it on the scale.

Not difficult at all.

dig255 I like the idea but I have a electric jack that I'd like to keep if at all possible. I'll keep you guys posted and I'll take the before/after pics

Had to rotate my jack and run with two bolts in order to make moderate right turns. Jack E Up is on the way! I'm probably going to swap the propane bottles and the battery to gain even more clearance. That should get me enough to open the back doors as well.
