Re: Front Aluminess Receiver Hitch

I've got one. I carried maybe 200 pounds on it for years. Worked great. At the time I had a gas van and wasn't too worried about reduced air flow upfront. With my 6.0 PSD van I have the hitch upfront too but never use it. I just don't want to further reduce airflow into the radiator.

We have a front hitch. Can't say whether it's Aluminess. Winding up 3700 miles carrying two mtb's on a 1UpUSA rack w/no problems.

Re: Front Aluminess Receiver Hitch

If you are only interested in Aluminess, then ignore, but...

I have a Draw-Tite front hitch (in front of a V-10). I bought it to mount a plug-in spare tire carrier. The hitch itself is really nice, and fit well/is inconspicuous. I installed it myself (while camping!) in a couple of hours. I don't do anything like winching/towing, but I do remember there is some limit on that (there are two loops along with the receiver).

Watching temps with a Scan Gauge, I did not notice much of a difference with the spare up front (although I thought there might be). This was in 100º ambient temps. The whole thing is rock solid, and I'm pleased with it. Didn't look at Aluminess, so they might have something much cooler

It's this model hitch (and there are some photos that show it installed at the link):

Re: Front Aluminess Receiver Hitch

I recently had Aluminess install a front hitch on my bumper. They had to cut a little bit but it fits in there perfectly. I had it installed in order to be able to run a bike rack up front.

If you're considering buying an Aluminess front bumper and reciever check out the BuckStop bumpers. My Outback came with a front receiver included.

Re: Front Aluminess Receiver Hitch

Just remember not to include towing or the like in that "etc..." bit.

eTrailer and lots of others have bumper bolt on hitch tubes; since you're attaching to a bumper you just drill, add a backing plate, and bolt it on for lightweight stuff. Like this: http://www.etrailer.com/Specialty-Trail ... 46401.html. I don't know how hard it is to reach the inside of your bumper, but we've done this on trailers.

Any trailer place could fabricate one pretty easily I suspect if you needed a custom rise or whatever.
