Got a question for you guys about a specific bumper

on GTRV's website the first picture in their picture slide of the ford van, Who makes that winch bumper. I spoke to GTRV and they said it was a warn bumper, but it doesn't look like a warn bumper that i've ever seen. and the emblem on the driver's side corner right next to the fog light inserts doesn't look like the warn "W" logo. It looks like something that road armor would make, but with the logo on it i don't think that's who made it. Is this a one off custom? any info on this bumper would be greatly appreciated.

I am almost sure that's a Road Armor Bumper.

It's a Road Armor.

Be sure to do a search about them before you order. There's a lot of hard feelings out there towards Road Armor. And, they don't fit the vans that well.

If you want a solid bumper designed specifically for the E-series, look at Buckstop. http://www.buckstop.biz/ I couldn't be happier with mine. From what I understand, QuadVan had a role in the development of the '08+ E-series Buckstop.

I haven't tested mine against a deer yet, but it works well for winching.

What? Not true. I had a very good experience with my Road Armor purchase and installation. Mine was made the way I wanted it, delivered on time, and fits and performs fine. I've never heard any bad words about them.

jeffery that is an awesome bumper. I'm glad there is a wealth of information on here. I have heard on some of the jeep forums that the fitment was iffy sometimes and the powder coating was weak and allowed the bumper to rust, but that was earlier when road armor was a fairly new company. I haven't done a whole lot of research on their products, but they do look sweet and compliment the body lines well.

Re: Got a question for you guys about a specific bumper

I didn't say everyone had a bad experience, but there is no shortage of folks who have been burned by Road Armor. I'm glad you got yours without issue. Road Armor wasn't always a hard company to deal with. But it went through some changes for the worse it seams.

The fit issue is how close the top edge of the bumper comes to the body of the van. Maybe not are all this way, but the van I looked at had barely any clearance, and I'm certain that any amount of frame flex would have resulted in the top edge rubbing/denting the bodywork below the grill. If you look at pics of guys taking their vans rock crawling, there is a couple inches of movement across the bumper as the suspension goes through full articulation.

Re: Got a question for you guys about a specific bumper

I have a word of caution regarding the Buckstop bumper. I have the Outback model on my van with a Milemarker winch. It is nearly impossible to see the winch line as it coils around the drum while you are winching. This makes it a little difficult to be sure your line is feeding in smoothly. I plan to get a piece of plexiglass mirror and position it at an angle over the bumper opening while winching. That should take care of the problem. That, and getting a synthetic winch line (are you listening, Santa?). Also note that the tow points are OEM J-hooks and not mounts for D-shackles. Buckstop claims they are fine for 180º but some people prefer a completely "closed" rigging. In that case, you can use a D-shackle mount that fits into the front tow hitch.

Besides that, I am very happy with the bumper. It fits perfectly and looks awesome.

For the record, what if anything was different about your bumper order?
