Hitch Mount Motorcycle Carriers

Trying to see any EB's ideally, or others that have box, spare, and also a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier. Also any feedback on this option vs. a trailer, which may allow a larger bike.

thanks,

carl

I use a hitch mounted moto jack rack carrier. The van has aluminess rear, spare and an aluminess cargo box. I need to use a 12 hitch extension to make the bike clear everything. But is works great and is very secure. My only complaint is that you can't access the rear area with the bike loaded.

Any thought on rating of hitch carrier with extension? Normal tongue weight looks like 500lbs, with extension I would guess much less.

The extension has a load rating of 400 pounds and my bike weighs about 280-290.

I use a moto jack rack. Really solid carrier and built like a tank. The ulitmate MX hauler is very similar and works well too.

Re: Hitch Mount Motorcycle Carriers

I use a double carrier, but I still have to use an extension.

I carry the bike on the rear tray if I want to retain access to the back of the van. As a bonus this give me extra space for coolers.

I do much prefer the bike carrier over a trailer. Less to go wrong on the highway like tires and wheel bearings, and I don't have to worry about lane restrictions (WA and CO) or lower speed limites (CA ).

Downside is it puts a lot of weight on the rear axle, and tail-swing is prominent.

A Class-5 (not to be confused with the "V5" manufacturing standard) is a must if using a bike carrier with an extension.
