Re: New Toy

Love the look of the air scoop into the oil radiator on those RT's. That is a sweet color too. As a GS junkie I think your RT would look better with a few bug guts splattered on the front somewhere.

There is a promotional deal being offered through out June. Buy a big gs and get free panniers. So the short answer is yes the BMW branded Touratech Zega Pro panniers come with the bike. The ones pictured are a demo set that has a few scratches. I'll be able to put the first scratches on the new ones that come with my bike.

Ramsey

Thanks for that link. That is the best side by side comparison I've seen. There are things about the new wethead that really do appeal to me but after watching the video I'm glad I got the oilhead. The low end grunt off road is the big advantage to the oil head. Since I'm moving up from an 85HP bike either one of the 2013 models is going to feel like a rocket ship to me. I'm not going to be disappointed with only having 110HP vs 125 on the wethead.

Carl

Yes, I did have an older GS model. I recently rode the 2003 R1150GS-Adventure down to Baja to watch the Mexican 1000. Here is a picture of my old ride. The picture was taken a little east of Coco's Corner.

Re: New Toy

This is an updated photo of my new toy. I had the shop swap out the tires and I've removed the rear seat.
The image was taken on Old Germantown Road looking down at the Columbia River a little west of Portland Oregon.

What tire did you go with? I think my next bike might be a GS!

Re: New Toy

I put Continental TKC80's on the bike. Big dual sport knobbies. They are rated to a max of 99mph but seemed to do fine this morning at 110mph on the freeway.

Break in procedure in the manual calls for bumping the revlimiter once in a while between 350-500 miles. It bumps the revlimiter in 3rd at 95mph. Redline is 8500 rpm. I'll never be bumping the revlimiter in 4th, 5th or 6th gear!

Being a member of BMWMOA got me a $750 discount on the purchase price of the new GS. Heck of a deal. It's also nice to travel with the Anonymous book handy just in case.

REALLY....REALLY........liking my new toy!!!!

Re: New Toy

what a great bike.

Was just at our local honda dealer and noticed they carry the BMW brand.

How do the BMW 800's stack up for long distance riding ? I am not too tall so anything bigger
would not be in the cards for me. currently have a Buell Blast from many years ago and thinking of doing a swap.

IMHO no where close to the boxer twin. The F800 is a fine motorcycle but BMW's true strength is the boxer. They've been perfecting the design for 90 years!
