Re: Not Able to Tow

I had a tent trailer a few years ago (really liked the space/amenities but hated towing it). You end up learning a lot about trailering and end up buying stuff and more stuff to make the trailering easier. (I spent a lot of time looking at other people's trailer setups, countless websites and catalogs.) That's how I ended up with the extended length drawbar. You don't lose capacity as opposed to receiver extensions which do. If you really needed an extended receiver extension without diminished capacity I would go with a custom welding as already mentioned.

Make sure you get the 2in ball with extended shank. The shank must be 1in not 3/4in. You'll need the extra shank length if you later decide you need sway control. Go to OSH for 1in lock washers and nuts, they even have 1in nylocks.

Hope this helps™,
Ray

Re: Not Able to Tow

Thanks Ray. I am a cdl driver so pulling trailers is my biz.
Commercial & recreational are very different in their needs.
I will go to my local trailer store and see what they recommend for my set-up.
On uneven terrain I don't want to be squeezed for van/trailer clearances.
I am trying NOT to reduce any weight limits.
19,000 lbs gvwr is want I want to be able to do - when I need to.

In Cabo right now! ;-) Burp

Re: Not Able to Tow

Ok, I feel I have a suitable solution to my clearance problems.

I did the WD & sway hitch set-up. You can get two different length shanks (bring it on), and I purchased the longer T-shank.
My van didn't settle before and doesn't now, but the tow quality has improved big time.
No more bucking at the hitch and sway reduced quite a bit.

Here are pictures of the clearance I have now. This is how tight my rig has to turn just coming & going from storage.
Hopefully not tighter than this in RV parks.

I could get more clearance by swapping propane tanks & batteries, but enough of throwing $ at it for now.

Whatcha think?

Re: Not Able to Tow

Looks good. You can probably gain a few more degrees of turing just by pulling the propane cover temporarily.
