OK, it only took me 3 years, but I finally bought the LetsGoAero Gear 34 storage box. Just installed it today. Had to make a few minor modifications on the bike mount locations, but now have 2 road bikes, helmets, shoes, and some other junk in the trunk. Looks pretty good, but haven't gone off road yet. With the extended hitch bar, I can get in the back doors fairly easily and it still fits pretty close to the van. It covers about 1/2 of the rear windows, but my other rack solution did also. Really like the idea of having them totally enclosed. Will report back after a couple weeks use.

So far so good. Drove on some forest service roads today with no problem. You can see it move a little, maybe an inch or two of side to side motion. May get a little more ambitious off road next time.

For comparison, here is what I used before. Worked well and was smaller on the back, but had to keep all four wheels in the van. Also, the road cover wasn't nearly as weather proof. With the new box, I can also leave the rear wheels on the frame and keep my hands a little cleaner. Still happy with the new container. Much faster getting ready to ride and closing up after the ride. One other bonus, I have been pulled over a few times because they couldn't see my plates. The new rig has lights and a plate bracket.

Ok just a update on this build I swapped out the Thule mounts because of wear on the forks and having to strap the wheels to keep the bikes on. I swapped to the 1up roof rack mounts and so glad I did. They are more secure and can handle the plus size tire.
