Wanting to tow a toyhauler plus toys

Is it true?! Tell me it isn't!!! I can only haul 10,000 with my 2002 E350 V10. Any suggestions short of buying a new diesel? Thanks gang :/

Upgrade the hitch to a class 5 (this was the factory limitation) and swap to 4.56 gears, which kick your GCWR up to 20,000 pound or 22,000 with a 10.5" ring gear.

Note... if your axle is a semi-float, swap it for a full-float rather than just changing ratios.

Note: Seem like since the van body went out of production, off-the-shelf receivers greater than 12k rated have gone away too. Might need to think about a Buckstop towing bumper if you need more than that. Those are good for 20k. I'll post a pic Monday when I get it put back on (went in for refurb).

Where are you located? In California you can't tow more than 10k on a tag trailer anyway without a commercial license (I know that lot's of people still do.) You also can't tow doubles without a commercial license, and even then, you definitely can't tow doubles with 2 tags (as in Carringb's photo) in CA. What's your trailer weigh, or are you just weighing your options?

Nice set up! Have you ever gotten stuck trying back up and had to disconnect the last trailer while wearing the cone of shame?

I did get stuck in a snowy neighborhood once, where the snow piles didn't leave enough space for a U-turn and I needed the slides facing the other way. So it was basically 1/4 mile of backing both trailers, a 3 point turn, then another 1/4 mile back to the house where we were staying.

You'll definitely want to swap to a 4.56 diff ratio and 10.5" ring gear by swapping in a Dana70 or Sterling axle. If you have a full float now, it might already be a Dana 70 with a D60 carrier, so it's an easy upgrade). Just have to check the casting stamp next to the diff cover.

That's enough trailer you'll need the Buckstop-Reunel towing bumper:
