Weight distributing hitch recommendation?

Later this summer I'll be towing a trailer for 5 days through the eastern sierras.

Gross weight of the trailer is 5,500 and tongue weight is 550.

These both exceed my Ford hitch specs of 5,000/500 without use of a WD hitch.

Ideally I'll rent a WD hitch, but if that idea fails, I'd appreciate any recommendations on which WD hitch to use with the SMB. I'm in SoCal, and any suggestion on where to go to rent or purchase would be helpful too.

Thanks

R

Cheapest one is at Harbor Freight, though I have never used theirs it looks to be just fine. If you were in my area you could borrow one of mine.

I had this and thought it was amazing...

I towed 7,000-8,000lb travel trailer and sometimes forgot it was back there.

Re: Weight distributing hitch recommendation?

Remember to UN-hook the arms on a WD Hitch when going off road! This guy was on a dirt/sand road with lots of washboard and some small rollers, the timing of the rollers bent the trailers tongue up. It happens more than you think!
