yakima track question

finally got a smb, need to carry kayaks, ect on top. when those of you who added the yakima track system, did y'all install them where the bolts come through inside of the penthouse or in that space outside of the tent fabric and the edge of the top? i am not sure what is worse, the bolts where the fabric bunches when the top is down, or a bunch of holes and nuts in my penthouse headliner. thanks in advance for any input. frank

Ours are installed outside the canvas.

Also, they are not mounted parallel, and that is on purpose because the penthouse top is not square either... ...or something like that. This means that to move the towers forward or back that the tower to bar connection needs to be loosen to allow travel.

This is our second vehicle with Yakima tracks, and the have worked wonderfully well.

The first set of tracks were installed by a chucklehead that said he was qualified and trained to install when he was not.

The tracks do not use your normal hardware, but rather a special rivet like fastener.

Mine are outside toward the edge. As with other holes I have drilled (i.e. for wiring for lights) I keep it on the outside.

Boy, I'm thinking about complaining to a site administrator about all this inappropriate advertising but ...

Just kidding

Actually if I was closer to a Kayak purchase (next year) I would buy them. Step one, buy the Yak rails.
