Re: 2005 E350 6.0 Diesel 4x4 with 70K mi for 40K... Opinions?

I saw this SMB in Tempe on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I didn't pay too much attention to this one as they also had a Baja Tan EB50 that was more to my liking but both failed to meet my "no diesel" requirement. This one is an RB50 and not an EB50. It is pretty basic as you already know. In addition to the things it doesn't have, it does not have the side door cooking cabinet, it does not have an electric penthouse roof and I couldn't find any of the original SMB paperwork or manuals though I didn't look very hard. It did have an alarm system that the dealer couldn't quite figure out how to turn off, and neither of their SMBs had enough battery power to start the engine. If you are going to see it, don't go on a Saturday since their service guys are off on weekends. I wasn't impressed, but my standards are abnormally high.

Both of their SMBs are also listed here (not my post)

SteveinLA(Tempe),
Thanks for the input. RB not EB? Oops, I saw the other one on their site and perhaps I confused the two. RB makes it even less appealing. Not enough battery to start them? Did they eventually get them running? Thanks again.

Since none of the salesmen could operate the jump starters or battery chargers or whatever they needed to use to start them and the service techs who could didn't work on Saturday, they never got them running while I was there.

I too am getting close to purchasing one and have been watching like a hawk for deals. I watched this one go through on ebay about a month ago without a reserve on it and almost bid on it myself...it sold for slightly over $46K. After the "sale" on ebay, they placed it on their website from "for sale" to "sale pending". Not sure where it fell through, but they may take close to $46K...they've had it for sale for several months.

On another note, it looks like the porta potti is missing as well as the rear bed platform. The fridge may have some slight damage and they painted the undercarriage to "pretty it up".

If it's mechanically sound and everything else still works, it's still a good price for mid $40K's. Most of the similar ones I've seen run between $50-$60K (I actually have kept a speadsheet to track asking prices for comparisons). I just want to save up a bit more and get past the holidays before I pull the trigger. good luck!

The biggest neg I noticed was a smell of dog inside the vehicle. He obviously traveled with a k9 a lot. You would want to have it cleaned from front to rear to get the smell out.
You say that as if it is a bad thing! At least it didn't smell like cats...

I guess it's kinda like armpits... It's alright when the van smells like YOUR dog.

I saw the price they originally wanted for the white one and it was no where near 40-45. It didnt meet it's reserve by a long way. If I remember right when you went to the Desert Autoplex site and they used to have the price on the site, it was closer to 65-70K.
