It's the base model, but it's a diesel, and it's low mileage. Haven't exactly kept track of the going prices anymore, but it seems underpriced to me.

It's tempting just to have a spare drivetrain. If I didn't have a 7yr/100K Ford Ext. Warranty.

I had the same idea. If SMB will convert an 06, this is a great opportunity for someone looking to get a 'new' SMB at a great price. My recollection is that 2006 was the last year of the 6.0psd motor that did not require the new ULSD fuel. That means it can go anywhere, Baja in particular.

I've got an early '07 and it doesn't require the ULSD. That's why I didn't wait for an '08.

Fresno sold us the last '07 they had that would take both fuels. I knew I was going to be going into Mexico from the Rio Grande Valley often, so it got me off the fence regarding the purchase.

Does ULSD stand for Ultra Low Sulfure Diesel?
What happens if you put regular diesel in a ULSD required 6.0 PSD engines?

Yes, Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel.

Running higher sulfur diesel may foul the catalytic converter. Or maybe not.

Even my 2004 6.0 PSD has a catalytic converter, but no need for ULSD. Same for 2005, 2006 and some 2007.

It may just be a government mandate that later engines require ULSD. I don't really know. Or maybe the cat's are more sensitive.

Thank you Mike.
First time I read about it and wasn't sure.
Didn't know that diesel engines had catalytic converter! I have seen fine dust exhaust filters.
Will add it on my question list!

Edit: thank you Switchfoot for the information and details.

Re: 2006 e350 rb diesel 4400 miles

It's my understanding that none of the 6.0 Powerstroke diesels require ultra low sulfur fuel. Our 2007 has a sticker saying it can burn either fuel. The engine will be happier with the old high sulfur fuel as it supposedly has better lubricating properties than ULSD.

Ford doesn't have another diesel engine that will fit in the van and keep selling the 6.0 mainly to satisfy the ambulance market. Ford has to pay an fee/fine to the EPA for the existing diesel engine because they don't meet new air pollution requirements. The diesel option now costs $7,400 which is about $2K higher than the 2007 model year.
