Kevin,

FWIW I haven't heard anything about it being sold, and his post on Expedition Portal doesn't mention anything about it being sold either. Not that it doesn't mean it has sold...

If you're interested in the van, I suggest you contact Andy directly since I'm not sure how ofter he logs in here.

Re: 2008 4x4 Sportsmobile E350

It is with mixed emotions that I report on the sale of our Sportsmobile. A fine gentlemen purchased it and I'm sure that he and his wife will enjoy it.

I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who have posted and commented here on the Forum. This place was a huge help as we considered the build and was a great resource as we planned adventures.

We would have kept the Sportsmobile as it was perfect in every way. We put almost 75,000 miles on it in the two years of ownership. Our plan is to continue to log those kind of miles, if not more in the future. We felt that it would be the right thing to sell the rig to someone who was going to log "normal" miles and therefore be able to enjoy it for many years.

For those that are interested, we are going to purchse a very large truck chassis with 4x4 and single rear wheels that is rated to roll for around 1,000,000 miles. We are planning to commision Global Expedition Vehicles (GXV) http://www.globalxvehicles.com to attach a camper / cabin on that for our living space.

Thank you again and I hope for all, a very Happy New Year!

Andy

I had an opportunity to walk through the UXV-550 camper box before it was mounted onto the F550 chassis. It was super spacious and the rear bathroom / closet area is over the top nice. I also saw the F550 chassis. It is really nice with the wheels, tires, suspension, etc. The stock Ford cab is awesome.

We however, are looking at a chassis that is expected to roll for +/- 1,000,000 miles. We would have to go through several "normal" rigs to get that kind of longevity. We'll see.

Here is a photo of a truck (next to our former rig) that represents the chassis that we are currently looking at:

We have seen several rigs that were done by Global Expeditions Vehicles. The build quality is first class and they are very creative and fun folks.

Stand by for more as we put things together...

Thanks again to all and Happy New Year!

Congratulations Andy.
I look forward to seeing your build. Please keep us posted and don't be a stranger.

I am really interested in seeing the GXV and have been reading about them for awhile.
