Re: 2008 Sprinter Sportsmobile with Penthouse top

Please confirm this van does not have rear AC. Seems to have everything else!

Thanks

Do you mean a rooftop AC unit? If so, no is the answer. The AC is the dash however does comfortably cool the entire rig in my experience.

Thanks, I live in the southern US and will likely need some sort of AC that works off 110V during the summer. Confirm the dash AC only works with the engine on? Do you know of any mod that can add AC after market?

I looked into adding a Starcool to an existing build it was prohibitory (eg. all 3 SMB locations said "no") doesn't mean it's not possible, I'm sure someone has.

You're also not supposed to put a rooftop unit on the PH tops.

You would need to do a wall-mount AC unit. Coleman makes one.

Never seen that before.

Exterior Dimensions (Backwall Outdoor Unit) 43.1" x 27.1" x 10.6"
Interior Grille 18.5" x 18.5" x 2.3"
Weight 140 lbs.
Power Requirements 115 VAC/60 Hz for operation
12 VDC for thermostat power
Nominal Current Draw 9.0 Amps @ 115 Vac
Cooling/Heating Capacity 9,200 BTUh
Electric Resistance Heating Capacity 3,400 BTUh

http://truckcomfort.com/pdf/9880_Backwall_AC_4.pdf

That could be a really interesting option. 140lbs seems a bit much, random rooftop unit I found is 117lbs. Compared to putting a house window AC in your window... I don't know this could be a viable option.

Know anyone who has done one on a van?

Re: 2008 Sprinter Sportsmobile with Penthouse top

I thought I saw reference to one that goes under the floor... might fit in that big ol' void I have under my van just in front of the rear axle. I'm assuming that's where other folx have aux fuel tanks.

*Hey Christine, Christine... you around here? Christine?*
