Is that all you do with your SMB? Really?

I just finished installing an Aluminess front bumper and Warn 16.5ti today. This will ensure that if the fully locked 4x4 won't get me past the 2wd crowd, the winch can drag me even further. Ha! I'm just kidding of course. It's to pull out the 2wd vans that got stuck. ;-)

Oh boy, a winch and bumper. You must be so proud that you spent $3K for something most can accomplish using a simple come along and chain for around $150. You may want to keep the come along on board if you have one because those winches can kill a battery fairly quickly and they are not much help if you are trying to pull from the rear or the side of the van. I bet it looks really cool tho.

^ X2

I was thinking, like any of us really NEED an SMB (or two) to begin with, when most can get by with a tent, sleeping bag and a pair of hiking shoes. Heck Muir did it.

This whole thing is 95% about passion. One has to accept that all the rules, logic and common sense pretty much do not have to count. Come to think of it, it is like love. I heart my van

Re: Fair Price?

I think Texo has an opinion, and that's great,,,,,,,just great.......
And this forum is devoid of the name calling and general D-baggery that
can be found EVERYWHERE else.

Is there a place for him here? Keeping us in check with his earthy wisdom?
Shaming us for our bourgeois tendencies?

I think so. Maybe he could start a " That's so Stupid" thread in the campfire, and we can
keep a spirited dissenter/dissension thread going.

I mean ten cylinders????? Seriously! TEN

Re: Fair Price?

This is a forum for enthusiasts. If your not sinking money into your van and adding bumpers and winches and on-board air then you're in the wrong forum. None of it really makes sense. Until you actually need it.

And that's the whole point of my post. You don't actually need to spend the kind of money most people on this forum propose in order to enjoy camping in a van. You don't need on-board air when you can accomplish the same thing by plugging a good portable air pump into your cigarette lighter. The key to advancing the hobby is to make it affordable for most people and not to see how much money you can spend trying to "SLEEP in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER" (Chris Farley SNL).

Heck, why even get a powered one at all? Every yard sale in town has an old bicycle pump, just pick up one of them.
