It shouldn't matter if the wheel is 16, 17 or 18", as long as the tire is 33" tall.

Mike is correct in theory. You also need to check if the tire offset will fit the rack. I had an old style tire rack on my 07 Sportsmobile. I recently changed from the stock wheel & tire (245/75/16) to new AR Mojaves with Nitto Terra Grapplers (285/75/16). The new tire size was not the problem, however the two aluminum bars extruding from the tire carrier to the mounting plate were too short and my new wheel/tire would not fit (the upper left corner of the tire pushed against the rack causing it to not sit flush). Luckily Aluminess is very close to where I live and they changed out my tire carrier with another used one they had in their shop. All is good now.

We purchased a 2004 Sportsmobile (2 wheel drive) with the rear tire rack like the one in the photos and the previous owner was running original stock tires. We had Salem Kroger do the conversion to 4X4. They went with 17 wheels to cover the new brakes. We went with 34" tires (Toyo Open Country AT, LT 285 75 17). The only draw back is that this rack is not adjustable for tire size. It works fine, however the tire pretty much covers the driver side rear tail light. I understand that the newer tire swing away racks are adjustable for larger tire outside diameters. oclv

Well it looks like I will be trading my tire carrier back to Aluminess for credit towards a back bumper. I will now sell my backdoor ladder by itself. $ 100.00 or best offer.

I think Mike is ahead of me in the line up for your ladder, though.
