Jage,
First of all thanks for keeping this site so awesome!!! Second, yeah these 7.3 L are hard to find at all and almost always white. I had a 64 Falcon, a 69 Mach 1 and a 72 mustang when I was in high school that my dad but for me (they were junk) to restore and I went a long way with them untill I brought them to the custom paint shop after doing a lot of metal work myself only to get into it $tens of thousands of dollors with my dad bailing me out and getting cars back in primer...NOT even paint. The only time I had a good exp with a body shop was when a drunk ran through a stop sign and hit my 93 mustang the insurance company made sure the shop fixed the car better than new with flex agent in the paint over the old plastic body moldings and the thing looked nice...but the estimates did not go up when my car went under the knife/paint sprayer. One time a bought a 92 camero black that looked nice in college and a month later I was so follish...I found out under the hood in the door jams was maroon! Three months later the car went from looking great to not so great. I have some pictures of these nightmares in hardcopy form and could try to scan them to show you what I mean. Other people though take a car into the cutom body shop and come out with show car quality paint jobs for $5,000 but it has not been my luck. I have a black 2001 expedition with the gray bumpers and gray plastic fender flares from the factory. I wanted them all black and saw Maaco paints whole cars for 299 and whole cars in clear coat for $1,000!!! Last Saturday I took in my expedition to them and asked how much it would cost if I brought the bumpers and plastic fender flares in and just for these parts and a non show car body shop was somehow $900 and some dollors!!!
I know it would be hard to find a white van like this that does not have 300,000 miles on it with the slider and the 7.3 in EB. I don't want what happened in high school when the well respected car club favorite body shop gave an estimate of $3700 done and then had the car in bare metal and said I need another $2,000, I need another $3,200 etc and then get my car back in black primer! I also don't want a 299 paint job where the door jambs and hood is white and I take it Maaco does not paint individual body panels? A custom shop can hold you hostage and do $15,000 paint jobs only!
I don't know, I am a HUGE FAN of the guy with the gray DRW van with the V10 that packs rafts on top of his rig and the white DRW van that can be seen with the same rafts. I think he did a Maaco paint job for about $3800 to make it gray I think at least??? I wonder how that van and the Maaco warenty is? If the door jambs and under the hood is white or gray? It is a nice looking van!
I saw a 2002 black sliding door 7.3 with 88,000 miles on autotrader a couple of years ago for 7 some thousand and it was gone in about a week!
I am not sure if I will be able to find one and it will sure take cash because they are so old now they are not financible. I could by a newer discontinued black 6.0 with RSC if Chris at UJOR figured them out easier with low low miles if I looked hard, but I like the 7.3 and I am not sure did they run particulate filter on the 6.0 in the vans after 2007 or ever??? Does anybody know????
