Are you getting a different one or getting out of the van life completely?

Good question. I've discussed this a bit with the other Admins here, but haven't publicly stated my plans.

We've come to the conclusion that for all the time and money we have invested in the SMB, we're just not getting enough use out of it. Our schedules, and now our son's schedule, are not giving us near enough time to take the kind of extended camping trips we envisioned with the SMB.

My son and I had an absolutely great time on our roadtrip last month, but it just doesn't make sense to have so much capital tied up in something we save for special trips. Post-SMB, we're thinking about picking up an older Excursion, and then going with some combination of a pop-top, roof top tent, and/or camping trailer. A base vehicle like an Excursion (only in comparison to an SMB), is a little easier to justify for taking my son to his Taekwondo tournaments, taking family and friends on a quick getaway, running to Lowes...

Our (current) needs are more centered around hauling people and having a capable tow rig, than a fully outfitted camp and exploration vehicle. Believe me though, I second-guess myself everyday about selling it.

Just my 2 cents.... I have had the downgraded option before listed above. We never went camping and we always found other things to do. With the SMB we look forward to the whole experience from camping, to the trip there, to the meals, etc. No way would I have done any winter camping in my suburban or pop top trailer at the mountain. But we have done it several times in the SMB. Most people I know with the pop top trailers just end up storing them. Not enough motivation to get out and see the country. The SMB is the catalyst for us.... it gets us out and makes us want to explore everything more. The kids love spending time in it and getting out. I can guarantee they would not be so excited about a road trip in our car. The outdoors is everything to us and to have that connection and access as well as the capable vehicle to get us there is priceless.

Re: FOR SALE: '06 Sportsmobile (Ford E350 EB diesel) $76K

Is an Excursion really easier to drive around? The handling is sloppier, and it has a much larger turning radius, and front visibility is worse. And you can't tow as much, due to the limitations of the receiver which cannot be upgraded.

BTW - that's a sweet van. I hope to make a modular camping layout similar to yours someday, which I can drop into my van when I don't need as many seats.

In case any is wondering, yes there is a (two piece) penthouse bed included. I just temporarily removed it to allow better views of the interior.

Thought I'd mention the Title is clear, in-hand, and has no lien holders. Will make for an easy transfer to the next owner.

August Special

Buy my SMB this month, and it comes with a full, yes full, tank of fuel.

That's right 46 gallons on the best diesel available from the local truck stop.

Hurry, Hurry, Hurry!
