Too risky?

My friend in Bend sold his van a few years ago and is ready to get another. He doesn't have a lot to spend but also needs to tow a 32' party barge to the cascade lakes a few times a year. Given that the v10 or diesel makes more sense. I found the following for him:

http://eugene.craigslist.org/cto/2936580885.html

It has 179k on it and an alright home built camper. Overall it fits the bill and the price is right. What gotchas should he look for that are deal killer variety? Anyone nearby in Corvallis or Eugene who could check it out easily? Thanks for the help. He is the reason I now have vandiesel and I hope I can help him get some good forum guidance.

Thanks,

Brad

Too risky?

How can you go wrong? I paid more than that in sales tax for my used rig!

Re: Too risky?

One thing that wasn't mentioned in the ad. A clear title.

If the air gauge weren't included...

Re: Too risky?

Did I miss where the type of engine is even mentioned?

One, oblique picture is all they post? Come on.

Re: Too risky?

There are more pics in the link, which is a pretty interesting read. He's got some interesting ideas for a minimalist, one man rig. Pretty organized fellow too who knows how to document a build.

Too risky?

That is quite the write up after the link. Your friend can make a lot of repairs and still be ahead for for the $3,200 asking price.

I may be able to get down there on Sunday to take a look at it and do a test drive but I know nothing about diesels.

Let me know if I can help.

Re: Too risky?

It's not a diesel is it? For that price, i wouldn't think it would be, and he mentioned right at 16 mpg so I was guessing it would have the 5.4 in it.

Re: Too risky?

Van,

Did your buddy from Bend happen to have a 2002 sporty that he sold? I bought one from that area a few years back....
