Wanted - Free/Trade 4 Bumpers

I know this might be a long shot but I am looking for a set of Aluminess Bumpers. I figured I could offer yard work or maybe IOU coupons before making the big spend. If the right person were to make an offer I could also throw in some beers and maybe a nice looking piece of carpet for that special van. I have a few other things that I could trade too...

I have a couple Pretty worthless dogs that are too big for kennels and keep trashing my ride.
1 Beat up old Vanagon it's missing an engine that I pulled out for my lawn mower.
Enough empty bottles to redeem good cash in CA/OR or maybe help a young glass blower.
Weekly Lawn Service with my bad ass 1.9L lawnmower, it leaks oil on the lawn though.

I have a couple of really ultra liberal neighbors that I could work into the deal too... Probably not the best option since it seems most folks around here are from CA... But I figured there could be a shortage with some TX SMBers.... Let me know... I am open to thoughts and unlike all you big strapped SMB owners I am a DIY guy that's always pinchin the pockets.

If you sold of those old VW's, maybe you can actually buy them with money!

Or, are you just drooling at all of our pictures?

Re: Wanted - Free/Trade 4 Bumpers

That's a low blow Jeffrey...

And since you ask... I don't think I could even cover the Tax on a set of bumpers with the sale of my old vans... Now the SVX Syncro is a different story, but its gonna take time to sell and I want some big boy bumpers now!!!

And no your photo's don't bug me at all... I have one of those fancy internet filters on my computer ... my wife made me install it so I can't see any 4x4 vehicles, accessories or porn... funny though because I can see bare naked rigs all day long. #$%& Technology !!!! I don't even know what those aluminess bumpers look like... I just want a pair to be part of the club!!!

Oh, in that case no worries- just grab some Rustoleum semi gloss, shoot your existing bumpers and you'll never know the difference.

Hey, PP!
as a Texan and ultra-liberal SMBer (though radical would be more accurate), even with decidedly pinched pockets, I'm contemplating the Aluminess sale. Come the revolution, I'd be ready.

Well, not REALLY ready unless I got the winch too.

Re: Wanted - Free/Trade 4 Bumpers

Texan and ultra liberal... wow that sounds like a mighty interesting mix, do you still eat BBQ?

When I was in the service living in ole Tehas I never heard anything about a revolution! I could however see that if the lone star receded from the US into it's own country you could require a good set of bumpers. As for the winch... I don't know if that was added to my internet filter due to language relating to the misses or because it falls under 4x4 accessories... Regardless I'm thinking I am going to have to buy a set since it just don't seem like folks are as generous as they used to be!!!!

We got a different definition of pinched pockets though... I'm about to sell my Vanagons and then pull a few fillings out of my teeth to afford them bumpers... but I have a feeling you might just have to part with a few head of cattle.

Damn rich SMBers... lol

just kidding of course

Texan, radical AND an omnivore!
In fact, I'm headed for Cooper's in Llano this weekend for an episode of Big Meat. Also to Sportsmobile, Austin, where all my money lives.
Good luck on your bumper quest.

ProfessorPaddle,
I have to ask....a 3.3L Syncro? That sounds interesting. What is that, a subaru conversion or something, one of those GoWesty-built motors?

Re: Wanted - Free/Trade 4 Bumpers

You got it.

Start with a Subaru SVX and yank the 3.3L h6 out of it. Then get a bunch of parts from different places and put it all together inside a 4x4 vanagon.

Engine looks like this

And the tranny from the Syncro mounted with a custom bell housing looks like this

And for the record ... although I have had westies \ poptops (penthouse tops for all you SMBers), it is not a functional piece of equipment for me. As seen below the sheer amount I use my roof makes the top abused over what any poptop I have ever seen can take. It's one thing to load 800lbs up there for a trip, its another to load 800lbs up there 4 or 5 times each day for your runs down the river. If there were one thing I would like to design it would be a top that could stand the abuse that a rafter/kayaker creates.

Dog gone it BC you done made me hijack my own thread....

Remember everyone this is about free bumpers for me... or as Jage points out a free can of rustoleum

Re: Wanted - Free/Trade 4 Bumpers

Ah yes, the SVX install. The best conversion you can do to a Vanagon. I had a tiico in mine, but lusted after a SVX. That sucker would sell in a New York minute on the Samba, but bet you already know that.

Even with all this Vanagon/westy love, keep your grubby hands off my Aluminess...es?
