WANTED: Vehicle shipper recommendations

Was wondering if anyone had recommendations on cross-country vehicle shippers? Looking for one's you'd recommend, as well as one's you'd avoid.

You could ask SMB for the company they use. They may even get lower rates and be able to get your van under their deal.

Hi Herb,
I used DAS Auto Shippers when I bought a Jeep off eBay. They are the actual carrier not a middleman or broker, which i liked. I got a quote over the phone (i think it was $800 from Little Rock to Los Angeles). when the seller got down there they said they wanted another $300 or so becuase the Jeep was lifted. At the time i was p.o.'d but I talked to them and they made it $150. In retrospect I didn't tell them it was lifted so the quote was an estimate for the normal size vehicle and they explained it took up more room on the truck. It makes sense. All in all it was delivered on time with no problems. The shipping point was in Carson. They can transfer it there to a smaller truck and bring it to your door but it is a few hundred more. all in all i was satisfied.

Now I see they have satellite tracking so supposedly the owner can track where their vehicle is.

Happy 4th!
steve

I'm not sure who SMB uses but to have mine shipped from SMBW to Austin, TX will cost me $800.

According to my info SMB doesn't ship but has a driver who will drive your SMB.

Hi Herb,

Try United Road. They do west coast shipping and they farm out to insured and bonded truckers.
I dealt with them and it all worked out fine.
They have a great reputation and track record, so I would not be concerned if they farm out your vehicle to a legit trucker going east.

Do not do business with an auto shipping company called Cross Country.
They are amature, non-porfessional, will not commit to a pick-up date, nor a delivery date. Slackers from every angle! Stay away!!

p.s. I and I assume most forum members would agree "don't let a stranger drive your ride!" You will never know what was done, nor how it was driven, but the mechanic will when you pay the bill.

Good luck with shipping your vehicle.

This is from Liz at SMBW..." Paul is handling the shipping from our plant to Texas and will be able to help you with that aspect."

Greg in Austin also mentioned that his was shipped to Austin from SMBW along with a dark green van...both arrived on the same ride.

There's no way I'd let a "driver" put 1600 miles on my vehicle before I even set foot in it.

I'll check with Paul next week to see exactly how this will be done.

use this website for research

I shipped an SMB from Florida to Oregon in 12/2007. It was a pretty "uneven" experience. I used DAS. Had I checked the following website first I could have found better options:

www.transportreviews.com

good luck
