Wanted: very basic running Ford 4x4 van for custom project

Found this forum in my search for a 4x4 van and thought I would see if anyone knows of a van for sale like what I am looking for.

After looking at all the vans in the gallery, I have decided to try for an extended version. We currently have a 1992 GMC Vandura 2500 Extended conversion van and don't want to go much shorter than that. Prefer a 1996 to 1999 Ford E-series, but will consider all others. Looking to spend under $20,000, but would like to spend under $10,000 so that I can do my own add-ons. Don't want cabinets or anything other than a bed and maybe an AC unit. Not too worried about mileage if the price is right and it will get me back to Idaho without issues. Most important is that it has reliable 4x4 and an engine that still has at least a few years of mild use left.

Willing to drive or fly anywhere in the western U.S., maybe further, for the right van.

Thanks.

I don't have one to sell you but I can tell you which one to stay away from. There has been one on craigslist in Delaware for a couple of months. Looks OK in his photos but I went and had a look. Body rust everywhere so I didn't bother looking any further.

The one on craigslist looks like a fair deal. But I could not read the mileage. If you need someone to have a look at it the guys at advanced four wheel drive did an inspection on the one I am buying for about $40 - $50 for the drivetrain 4wd system. You could probably sling them a few more bucks to do a full visual type inspection if you asked.

Ah just put my glasses on. Fairly high mileage! I have no experience with the V10 engines so my .02c is probably worth .0002c

I have been circling that one in Utah for a few weeks now... The odometer looks like it says 245,000. It is the cheapest and newest of 3 I am currently considering. Thanks for the suggestion about having advanced 4x4 do an inspection.

Does anyone know where to find T-slider windows that are the same size as the factory fixed windows? I saw them in a photo of a 2007 Ford EB van. If I could just figure out where to get those windows or how to get rid of factory windows altogether in favor of some smaller vented windows, it would be a major deciding factor in which van I get.

You could try these guys for windows. I have never dealt with them but their name comes up here a lot.

Has anyone had any experience with Advanced 4WD Systems in SLC?

Re: Wanted: very basic running Ford 4x4 van for custom project

I know them and my van's a old used one they did a while back. As far as conversions go, I'd go with their system over anyone else.

I took my van to them after I bought it and they had all the records from the original conversion back in '92 so they knew what they were doing with it and all the things they've upgraded and changed since then. They know their stuff and are easy to work with.

Re: Wanted: very basic running Ford 4x4 van for custom project

I spoke with Advanced 4x4 today and they said they could do an inspection of all the 4x4 components at a rate of $70 per hour. Afterwards, I spoke to the current owner of the van and he said that the van was taken into Advanced 4x4 this past January to have the transfer case rebuilt. I may call them again tomorrow to find out if they have the records for this particular van.
