Re: 1 Deer + 1 SMB @ 60mph =

Glad to know the bumpers do their duty. I have had some near misses with deer with my SMB and I always wondered what would happen when I actually hit one.

The moose are a different story...... luckily I have seen them in time to slow down. My buddy hit a moose in his Subaru and it totalled the car and he was lucky to be alive. Even with the lift and bumpers I think the van is still vulnerable to moose hits.

Take a good look under it. I hit an Elk last week @ 60, like you, no front damage (I have stock bumper), but elk was already on it's way down. But it bent up the trans frame mount / support, took out the rear sway bar, ruined some front axle ball joints, hit the drive shaft hard enough to cause the diff to leak, still not sure if there is a problem with the front axle 1/2 shaft seal. The guts and smell is terrible, just can't get the dam thing clean under there.

Re: 1 Deer + 1 SMB @ 60mph =

Lucky it wasn't a black angus - here in Idaho and other western states with open range laws you have to pay the rancher for the cow that wandered on to the highway, pay for any medical expenses if anyone was injured (or funeral expenses in worst case) and finally pay for any damage to your vehicle.

If you are ever driving from Bruneau to Riddle out in the Owyhee pay special attention, lots of loose cows on that highway and with the twisting turns and hills they can be real hard to see.

Someday they need to appeal that law and hold the ranchers responsible.

Speaking of open ranges, when driving through Wyoming I was amazed to see cattle guards (parallel pipes you drive over) on the interstate exit ramps.

Come to think of it, you have to pay a fine for hitting deer in Okanagon County, Washington.
