a day on german autobahn ;-)

The normal frame rate for film is 30 frames per second. Slow motion is shot at a much higher frame rate sometimes into the 1,000s of fps.

If you are shooting a car going past you and need to pan to follow the car you have to do the pan at the same speed as the car. So if the car is going at 100 mph and passes you it is only in he frame for a few seconds and you do not get many frames. If he car is going past at 20 mph you are able to get more frames of film which gives you a less blurry image. This is why he Hobbit was filmed at a higher frame rate.

Re: a day on german autobahn ;-)

The bike in the first part of the video is going 180 mph plus and the family grocery getter wagon steps right past him. I see in the latter segments that the bike accelerates quicker but a 200 mph wagon is crazy. Wonder if you lift it three inches and run larger tires if you can still get grab 150? Maybe the light-bar and pop-up tent on the roof would provide too much resistance so you could only hit 130.

I will be watching for an "expo" RS6 Wagon build now.

All this talk about speed and motorcycles reminds me of a T-shirt I saw for sale in a British bike magazine back in the nineties. Like most things in the USA as well, the magazine had a focus on aging boomers since we have all the money. This T-shirt said: "THE OLDER I GET, THE FASTER I WAS".

Re: a day on german autobahn ;-)

Ha. We got something called roller coaster road here in my area. From the stop you can get to about 120 MPH to the bottom of the hill and hit about 110MPH at the top with a Harley. You can really fly. Usually the glide through the air is about 50 feet or longer depending on the bike. I don’t go so far these days cause I’m so fat. Fun anyway.

I'd love to go that fast but in a car. The fastest I've been is 160 in my Impala....100 seemed slow after that run.

How cool to be able to drive at those speeds. It's one thing they have over there that is bad ass.

Re: a day on german autobahn ;-)

The only reason they can go that fast is the roads. By comparison our roads are roller coasters and poorly maintained.

My European friends were surprised the roughness of our interstates.

Agreed, but I would add that the drivers probably make the biggest difference. I cannot begin to imagine the chaos that would follow a raising of the speed limit to anything approaching 100 mph here, let alone allowing unlimited speeds.

Re: a day on german autobahn ;-)

You mean some lane discipline and use of the mirrors might make our roads safer?
