A new forum member says, "Hello!"

Hello!
I'm Steve and I live in Los Angeles, CA. My wife and I are considering purchasing a Sportsmobile. For 5 years, we have owned Pepe, a 1978 Volkswagen Westfalia Champagne Edition. I use the VW for surfing 1 or 2 times a week all year round and sometimes as a mobile office. We love to camp but feel very limited by lack of power, discomfort after driving for more than 4 hours and generally not wanting to damage and/or be stranded by a 31-year-old vehicle. Something tells me that I am not the only one on this forum to have arrived at SMB this way.
We are in the process of picking our options. Many of my questions have been answered in previous posts and I am happy to see that there is such a helpful community here. We are looking forward to becoming part of it.
-Steve in LA

Welcome,

+1 for the Bus to Vanagon Westy to SMB. We loved our VW's but not the repairs. We were always too afraid to take it out of state or even up north. But with an SMB, you can take it anywhere and surf the coast in style and comfort. The outdoor shower and hot water is a must for winter surfing. We designed our SMB around our daughter and surfing. Good luck with your decision. and awesome looking bus! Check out our website, on our signature, to get ideas.

Cheers,

Ray

Welcome Steve, we are in West LA if you ever want to check out our '96 monster let me know. Regardless of buying new or used I highly recommend you make the trip up to Frenso. When we were pondering things we stopped by and they showed us everything they had from just gutted the interior to full polished and finished. Only gave me the "let's put you in one today" line once; hey they are salemen after all.

Cheers!
Ken

Steve, life as you knew it is OVER! I'd say you got your money;'s worth out of that VW.

I'm in Santa Barbara, if you're in the area...

Re: A new forum member says, "Hello!"

Thanks for all the compliments on the bus. It's a little sad to think that selling it will just about cover the Sportsmobile's sales tax.

My wife and I visited Fresno last weekend so that we could compare diesel vs. gas (for our purposes, gas won). Alan was extremely accommodating and I never felt like I was being "pitched" though he may have recognized the hooks already stuck in our lips.

I am spending more time than is good for me reading through forum posts. I am looking forward to several months of gut-wrenching anticipation followed by years of giddyness.
