Author Dia lets you read her stuff for free :)

Hey, all,

Anybody here read sci-fi or fantasy? As it happens, I'm an author. Summer is slow sales time, so I usually run some promos. I thought I'd make myself a thread to tell the forum when I've got free stuff.

1) This is is free today and maybe tomorrow, so get it fast before the price changes (and double check the price before you download).

The Minder's Bond - a fantasy short story. http://www.amazon.com/Minders-Bond-Fart ... 00E8SGV3U/

2) This next one is an anthology of sci-fi stories put together by some of my writer friends and me. If you like Baen as a publisher, you'll like these. http://www.amazon.com/Science-Fiction-W ... 00KREH10G/

3) And lastly, this story, and the magazine it's in, are free to read online until Sept. 1 when the new issue comes out. Watch out though, you might get a little something in your eye if you read Totaled. http://galaxysedge.com/index.htm

I'll bump the thread when new stuff comes out.

Happy reading!

P.S. Usually, I link to Amazon, but for those of you who like Kobo, Apple, Nook, etc., you can find me there, too.

There's no sex in any of them (my stuff, that is), and any language is pretty mild, mostly damn or hell at the worst. Minder's Bond is very safe if his reading level is advanced for his age. Expect some swashbuckling violence but not played for gore. (Pro tip: bring an iron pot to a knife fight.)

The anthology one has stuff by other authors that I haven't read all of, but I'd expect some of it to go past pg-13.

Totaled may be scary and traumatic for a kid. It's a tearjerker (a parent dies), so read it first. Probably depends on the kid.

Cool Dia, and thanks. He's a pretty mature 11 yr old. Reads everything. He's read 6 or 7 long books on this trip alone. It's a good problem to have but sometimes I wish he would go ride his bike!!!!

Hey, folks,

Two more freebies.

1) Flight of the Kikayon
- space-faring science fiction. http://www.amazon.com/Flight-Kikayon-No ... 00E91QL40/ (free until approx Aug. 1)

With five million credits in her pocket and a nanny-clone to take her place, Lydia thought walking away from her marriage would be easier than sipping cocktails at a society party. But Lydia's plans didn't include an illegal sport-fishing expedition on an interdicted waterworld, and her husband has plans of his own.

FLIGHT OF THE KIKAYON is classic sci-fi with a side order of adventure.

Length: 8,100 words, a novelette
Genre: science fiction, space opera, action & adventure
Market: written for adults but YA-friendly (no sex, mild violence, mild profanity)

2) TOTALED is still free to read at Galaxy's Edge. In fact, the entire issue is free to read, and there are some big name authors in it. http://galaxysedge.com/n1.htm (After Sept. 1, the link goes to a different issue. Still free, but not my work.)

A woman is trapped in her own brain after a fatal car accident. (no sex, no violence, mild profanity)

Click on "Current Issue" along the top nav to go to the Table of Contests for the rest of the issue.
