Re: Avoid this at all costs
Very glad you came through this ordeal OK and thanks for the good advice.
Luck does matter in situations like this, but I'd like to do as much as possible to stack the odds in my favor too.

Re: Avoid this at all costs
Glad to hear you doing well.
Good advice to one and all. Maybe I should copy that message to my brothers, who seem to have covered all the wrong bases.
Nothing like a health issue to make all your other problems seem insignificant.
Take care,
Mike

Re: Avoid this at all costs
Well Charlie I am glad to see that you are still around to post. I had mine in 2002 and as you know it really gives a person a little different prospective on what is important in life. I took 2 500mg aspirins before the ambulance arrived. The cardiologist later said that they probable save my life. I think you will agree that it is something you just don't want to go through more than once. Good luck with you new life Charlie and like they say, "Don't drink, don't smoke, don't chew, and don't go with the girls that do!".

Not in my case, like a dummy I swallowed the asprin instead of chewing. The time release coating prevented any benefits.
Note to self (and others) chew the aspirins

Re: Avoid this at all costs
Charlie, glad you're with us, man! I started cleaning up my act some years ago (found out, inter alia, that smoking a pipe a few days a week doubled my life insurance premium because I was likely to die YEARS earlier). My oldest friend had a massive coronary from blockage. At about 60 he quit smoking cold turkey, cut back on drinking, and changed his whole diet. Bad news - some of his "friends" quit hanging around with him even though he never minded if they kept up the old habits. Good news - he's pretty close to 70, going strong, feels great. As to the aspirin, I'd urge anybody to keep a couple of the regular, uncoated ones around. If they stop the clotting or bust the clot, it's worth a little stomach irritation.

Re: Avoid this at all costs
One more "glad you made it" post.
Walgreens carries a little pill tube that attached to your keychain. It is just big enough to hold a stack of 5-8 regular sized (325 mg, non coated) aspirin. About the same size as my little LED.
I know it is good for a heart attack (I just checked with my cardiac nurse friend who says one, chewed and swallowed is preferred, not two. Thinning the blood too much can cause other problems.). I've been told it will help as immediate first aid with a stroke as well (not as sure on this one-any docs out there?). Chances of being near that bottle of Bayer at home when this happens are iffy but I've got my keys with me all the time.
My chances of a heart attack are pretty remote at this point in time but I figure I might be able to help someone else.
