CA4WDC to Testify Before US Senate regarding Closing of Land

I wanted to pass this along as it will affect all of us who enjoy going into the back country:

[excerpt] "The CA4WDC is OPPOSED to S2921 in its present form. We oppose legislation that restricts the public’s access to public lands. We oppose the creation of new wilderness areas and National Monuments that withdraw lands from public access and close existing routes."

See the attachment for the press release.

Surprised they don't have some kind of on-line petition to show support from the off road community. I'd sign it. Too bad we are the minority.

I think they had one awhile ago.

I signed up as an individual member yesterday for CA4WC to show my support. There is the ability to make a donation on their website to help pay for their legal fees.

I plan on doing that as well.

Another good reason to support any number of the Open Access advocates out there. Also joining a group that performs trail maintenance builds great support among the Forest Service as well, which can carry a great deal of weight with decision makers.

Re: CA4WDC to Testify Before US Senate regarding Closing of Land

I don't particularly know the details of S2921, but I tend to support the protection of sensitive lands through wilderness and monument designation. The statement that it will be restricted to the public is crap, and indicative of what any side of any issue will say to get their way. I enter wilderness areas all the time, ON FOOT, and along the edges on bike. And, in case some advocates of this opposition have never been to the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument, the largest one, there are countless trails and roads that can be driven, mountain biked and hiked. Has anyone here ever backpacked into a wilderness area or the high country of a National Park where not even dogs are allowed? It is the finest and purest natural experience one can have. (yes, I do love dogs). Many of you under-estimate the impact of repeated vehicle use on a natural environment, not to mention the further impact of the people themselves and the toys, equipment, pets, and garbage they bring with them.

Of course, this can't possibly be said about us, mature and aware SMB owners. WRONG. Come on people, get real!
