Re: Camp Knife

jage - Thanks for the tip about EDC... I can see that I'm going to spend some quality time there. I've been visiting sites of the major manufactures (Gerber, Cold Steel, etc.) to find things I like, then visit sites like Amazon, http://www.topsknives.com/, http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/main_front.jsp, http://www.knivesshipfree.com/,
http://www.knifeoutlet.com/index.htm, http://www.knifeworks.com/, to try and get a better deal on what I've found.

The photos posted by billwilson really got my attention and I'll have to spend some time investigating the custom makers, although I'm not sure I can afford any of their stuff. Thanks to others for their suggestions too. If only those darn lottery people would start cooperating with me....

My custom Morris was $50
I had a Spyderco "modded" for $40
The semi custom bush baby was $80

not too bad

if you want the polished, inlaid really fancy stuff, it costs ya
most of the stuff is pretty reasonable

Re: Camp Knife

Here is my EDC. I prefer something I don't mind breaking off in a tree or losing (still miss my Snap-on folder I left on the rear tire at Dead Horse Point) otherwise I'll never use it for anything. On top of that, I don't mind turning a cheapo into a left-hander so it comes out of my pocket right and I can open it without fumbling.

Camp Knife

For the price, I don't think you can beat cold steel if your into this kind of knife.

I have every version, and several in the van. During 15 years of SAR, I have used them in caves, swiftwater, and high angle rope rescues with perfect results. KISStupid

Re: Camp Knife

Thanks, Rockman. I've seen and admired those... thanks for the recommendation.

Tosh.O (tv show) bought one of their swords and it fell apart at the tang, came into several pieces and almost impaled the camera man.

Also, when I watch their product videos they seem very dishonest- sure it can bend to 90°, but then you cut tape? Why not show how far it comes back? And all those awesome ice block cuts? Hollowed out ice is not hard to destroy. Never owned their products, but the shyster sales keep me away.

Camp Knife

Yep, some of thief DVD examples are crazy, but their are always ways to show good qualities of a product while not showing the bad.

You most often get what you pay for, but for 20$, you'll get one heck of a carbon steel knife.

Also have a few of their two hand machetes and bolos, again, forth price, awesome.

I know nothing about high end knives.
