"Camp Knife" is 3 weeks old but I just got our van out of winter storage this week.
As far as at camp with an SMB you can carry most anything. My favorite knives are really 1095 carbon steel Old Hickory. They do require sharpening and handle sanding and oiling when new but fairly good knives after that at a very low price.

Our "camp knives" for in camp. They are 1095 carbon steel so they will oxidize.
A pair of 40+ year old ones from out kitchen. Getting warn, black, but still razor sharp w one or two passes on a sharpening rod.
Or "back country" knives. Used for everything from camp chores, opening cans, to cutting food. A his and her set of Explorer Black Claw 440C stainless steel folding knives. Probably only $25 each. Can be put away wet and dirty. Really with most our travels now done in a SMB van they are used very little
