Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
Another tale about the need to be prepared and use common sense. I think this does it - I am going go get a Spot Positioner.

Re: Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
I have the delorme PN 60 GPS w/ spot. I have been using spot now for almost 4 years. I really like the spot device and would not leave home without it. The delorme let's you send text messages via satellite spot network. Also I have spot connect with my IPhone that can also send text messages through my spot. It is a free app.

Re: Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
I carry a regular PLB. It does not have bells and wistles but it's cheap, has a 5 year batterey and no subcription fees. I keep it in my hydration pack and just make a habit to bring it. It is very peacefull knowing the Calvery is a push of a button away no matter where I am. This is the one I thought was the best bang for the buck when I bought it last year: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?pat ... id=1190343

PLBs are nice to have as a backup too.
Have you guys seen the new SPOT HUG?
It provides perimeter security and more! Spot meets Lojack..

Re: Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
HUG looks like about $350 plus $50 / 50 messages to your SMS (plus SPOT service). You can put battery and other "open/closed" monitors along with the theft detection. Pretty cool- but they do note: does not work in caves.

Yup, won't work in a cave, but your'll be able to track where they drove or towed your sportsmobile before they entered the cave

Re: Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
Haven't heard any news yet. Sounds like the weather has been really unforgiving. The ceiling is too low for helicopters, and the roads are muddy, slick and difficult for searchers on the ground.

Re: Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
Something to consider:
ZA 300 SR - I do not consider it poaching when it is a matter of survival. I will live to deal with the fines another day and doubt there will be any.
It is a great sport rifle.

Re: Canadian woman found in forest in NE Nevada
Bit overkill for survival, don't you think? Personally I'd rather have a knife and a slingshot.
