Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
While hiking a couple years ago we came across a large freshly shed snake skin. I typically come across these a few times each summer.
On the advice of a friend, I placed the snake skin inside the SMB in a few locations as a vermin repellant.
After dealing with two rodent incidents, one which caused extensive and expensive chewing damage, we've had no trouble. Maybe just a coincidence, but I'm sticking with the plan and grab every snake skin I find on the trail.

Yep, I think they even sell skins. I was told they do not smell, at least to humans and scare the hell out of mice. Wonder if its part of Fresh Cab? If not it should be.

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
Just came across this thread...I'm surprised to see that Sportsmobile used that cheap foam for insulation, seems that they could find something that actually insulates! They must use something better for exterior walls??
As for varmints getting into the engine bay chewing things up and making a nest...leave the hood open while parked as it leaves the area more exposed and they will move on. I learned this trick from the employees at Pinnacle's National Monument, if you drive by their maintenance yard where their fleet is parked you will notice all the hoods are open...they told me it works!

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
I would not use "steel wool", but brass wool, so as not to promote RUST. Had mice in my van a few times myself, hard to sleep with them in there.

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
According to the news, park officials now claim over 30 people might be affected by the Yosemite incident. They estimate 1700 people were exposed.

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
No noise but in Glacier Rising Sun Campground we picked up a mouse:
Ate into the GF bread and GF pasta in the large drawer, not much sign after that- plus we repackaged all food items in hard sides. After returning home there was a mouse in the house that didn't look like common mice around here, so we're pretty sure we brought him in with our stuff when unpacking.

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
I have a 2011 RB50 and it is absolutely transparent to mice and rats. I was just down in the San Rafael Swell, and was bombarded with critters every night. A tarp thrown on the ground would be just as much protection. . .
Is it possible to completely mouse proof a Sportsmobile? By mouse proof, I mean filling ALL access holes with something the little buggers can't chew through. Has anyone on this forum done so? Can you do so just from working on the accessible holes from under the chassis, or is it necessary to do some ripping and tearing from inside?
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
It probably varies from vehicle to vehicle but I'm gonna try. I was attacked on the last trip again

Re: Chipmunk, Field Mice Intrusion
I found snap traps work and keep at least one set in the van 24/7. I use peanut butter for bait. The deer mouse in the photo was trapped in Lassen a couple of weeks ago.

I did come across one person talking about whether snake skins work or not. He question was that if mice could smell the snake (skin), why do the mice just run around oblivious when they'be been put into a snake's cage for feeding?
Seems like a reasonable question.
I used Fresh Cab once again on my trip this summer with my son. No rodent issues, but can't say if it was due to the Fresh Cab.
