I think the red charging light is within the reflector assembly. I like the idea of being able to locate the light based upon the red light, but as it appears that people find it too bright, I wonder how hard it wold be to perform a red-ectomy?

Led light

Jage

I installed a few extra 12 volt sockets in the dash.. When I put the led light in it blew the fuse.. These 12 volt sockets are all a little bit different(if you look at how they make contact). I haven't run one all down to see if it's really charging. But youre right I hate things glowing in the dark..

Yes the red is in the reflector. I don't know how hard it is to take apart, but there is probably a wire you can snip to lose the red permanently- if it's not all circuit board it is probably a simple connection to the base.

i just put mine in today and am letting it charge up tonight.

i got thinking, if you leave it in there all the time and the red light is on, it will drain your battery (albeit slowly).

Steve, actually this little light is the result of a secret conspiracy between the big gasoline producers and the power companies. See, if you stick one in your lighter, you'll wake up at 2:00 a.m. worrying about your battery charge UNLESS you run the SMB or the Onan at least once a week (using gas) or plug in (using power). There is an evil genius behind all of this who dreams of a world full of SMBs with little red lights that never go out...

I've found it is a bit distracting when driving too- I catch the red light out of the corner of my eye and think something is wrong, or something is on that isn't supposed to be.
