Cigaretter lighter lamp

Anyone tried one of these rechargeable cigarette lighter lights? 0.5W LED through SuperBrightLEDS.com. I already have an LED Mag light in the SMB, but having one of these always in the dash would make it convenient.

Has a red light to let you know its charging (charged?) and I imagine it helps you locate it. Hopefully that indicator light isn;'t too bright.

Yup. Bought one with my LED conversion.

Pros:
Compact
Good Light (for LED)
Always Handy
Red charging light is cool

Cons:
Turning on is not intuative (not sure why both of us just struggle with this)
As far as I can tell it's always charging, I moved it to my Jeep where the Cig lighter is Key-on, not that it takes much probably.
The bright red charging light cannot be turned on for night vision

and the biggest con, the bright red charging light does not go off EVER if it's in a powered cig lighter. You thought the CO detector was bright? You ain't seen nothin.

Did I mention it's bright and doesn't go off?

If they were less than $14.99 I would have gotten one for each of my family this Christmas and a spare for myself. As is I'll wait until they're a bit cheaper.

I was concerned about the red charging light being bright, especially if it were plugged into the SMB cig lighter socket, which is right in your line of sight. That's a bummer. Seemed like a real good choice for the SMB.

BTW, here's another source (looks to be the same product), and they say "Save $10 when you order our 3-pack". Looks like they have more body color choices too.

Overland Journal has a small paragraph on a LED light for the 12v receptacle.

They charge in the cig lighter but not the aux receptacle.

I had mine in the wall on passenger side outlet for the original charge, you sure your outlet is working?

I have both of these lights and cannot tell the difference in the out put . I to was concerned about the Red charge Light but have found the Blue light more obtrusive . Red will have less of an effect on your night vision as well . I purchased another half dozen for all of the vehicle's and the Bay Ranger and have found them very useful .

Herb - the Overland Journal piece was basically a 4 sentence paragraph about the light. It wasn't really a review. However they do like them and found them useful. Nothing negative was said. I'll probably have to pick one up as a belated stocking stuffer...for myself.

OK, so two questions....

1. Does it really charge in any 12v outlet ??

2. Would a little dap of glyptol or something similar cover the charging light?
